A postdoctoral research position (or an exchange scholar/student position) will be available in the laboratory of Dr. Wei Mi at Yale University School of Medicine. The research projects will focus on the biochemical and structural studies of membrane proteins in bacterial toxin secretion. Examples of our research approach can be found in recent publications (Mi W, et al. Nature. 2017 Sep 14;549(7671):233-237. doi: 10.1038/nature23649; Schoebel S*, Mi W*, et al. Nature. 2017 Aug 17;548(7667):352-355. doi: 10.1038/nature23314).
The applicants should be with bacterial genetic background. Strong background in molecular cloning, gene knock out/knock in and manipulation of bacterial genomic is essential, experience on biochemistry and protein purification is a plus, but not required. The candidate should be highly motivated for career development and joining the Mi lab will provide unique opportunities of entering structural biology field with cryo-EM techniques.
Yale University is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for structural biology, including a Titan Krios with phase plate, energy filter and direct detectors, a Glacios with K2 detector, Talos L120C and T12 microscopes. The research program integrates cryo-EM and biochemical approaches and the environment fosters interactions with other world-renowned groups in the membrane protein and cryo-EM field. The Mi laboratory is located in the Department of Pharmacology (https://medicine.yale.edu/pharm/).
The position remains open until filled. To inquire about the position, please send a brief letter of interest, a CV, and the names of three references to Dr. Wei Mi (wei.mi@yale.edu).
