The CLS has a long history which can be dated back to 1893 when the university was founded. The current name has been in use since the Department of Biology merged with the Department of Virology and the Center for Biotechnology in 1992. The college currently has 160 staff members (including 60 full professors), ~800 graduate students, and ~600 undergraduate students. The college offers interdisciplinary programs which integrate traditional collegiate subjects with modern biological and biomedical subjects. The college also enjoys its state-of-the-art facilities, including the first biosafety level-3 laboratory in Chinese universities and one of the best mass spectrometry facilities in China.
In its long history, the college has earned a reputation as one of the top life sciences colleges in China. As the life sciences are progressing rapidly, the college is continuing to evolve and develop. We are aiming to create a center of excellence both in teaching and research nationally and internationally. Our highest priority is to recruit the best young people including the brightest students at various levels and creative young investigators who are talented in original and cutting-edge researches.
