RESEARCH INTERESTS
Mitochondria are the major energy source and key regulatory center of apoptosis in mammalian cells. Mitochondria are highly dynamic organelles that continuously divide and fuse. Mitochondrial dynamics determine the morphology, structure and function of mitochondria within the cell. Abnormal mitochondrial dynamics leads to various human diseases including neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases and cancers. We focus on the role of mitochondrial dynamics in normal cellular function and human diseases. To address these issues, we will develop some novel technologies for mitochondrial research, and create some mice models to study the occurrence and development of mitochondria associated human diseases.
